I learned a lot in the class. Eileen is peppy and knowledgeable. Signing up was easy and the price was reasonable. The seminar’s location was convenient and the conference room was comfortable because of the small class size. Finally, I was very pleased to have the seminar booklet e-mailed to me - great feature. I’ll definitely be taking more of your classes in the future.

Why is This Seminar Different?

Today’s 8(a) Business Development Program is strengthened and improved to be a truly effective business development vehicle.

  • New rules make it easier for non-minority firms to participate.
  • The new and improved 8(a) Program has become an essential instrument for helping socially and economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs gain access to the economic mainstream of American society.
  • In fiscal year 2000, more than 5,400 firms participated in the 8(a) Program and these firms were awarded $5.8 billion in federal contract awards.

By obtaining SBA 8(a) Program Certification, your company benefits by:

  • Being eligible for federal government contracts on a non-competitive or limited- competitive basis, through a program of federal contracting preferences and set-asides
  • Being eligible for contracts up to $5M for manufacturing and up to $3M for other products and services
  • Showing its commitment to the federal market. Participation in the 8(a) program is divided into two phases over nine years: a four-year developmental stage and a five-year transition stage.
  • Having opportunities to form beneficial teaming partnerships and mentoring relationships
  • Automatically qualifying as an SBA certified Small Disadvantaged Business (“SDB”) program participant

The Logistics: Completing and submitting a SBA 8(a) Program application is a daunting task for companies. Most people do not like to write and complete complicated forms, and the problem is compounded by government red tape. This is particularly true for people working in small businesses who are inexperienced in federal contracting. Many of our customers say they have been struggling with their SBA 8(a) Program application for over a year.

Our solution to the problem is the SBA 8(a) Program Application Preparation eLab. The eLab is a two-day event held in Bethesda, Maryland. Our instructors walk attendees through the application process and assist them in leaving the eLab with a completed SBA 8(a) Program application.

The eLab includes a one-hour presentation on the goals inherent in the 8(a) program.

Speaker: Thomas A. Duckenfield III, Esq.

The SBA 8(a) eLab works as follows:

  1. Upon completion of your SBA 8(a) eLab registration, Fedmarket.com will send each registrant explicit, detailed guidelines outlining the corporate data each registrant should gather in advance and bring to the SBA 8(a) eLab sessions.

  2. In the event that you have questions concerning the outline or guidelines discussed above, you may contact Fedmarket's SBA 8(a) consultants by telephone and we will work closely with you to address any issues you have.

  3. Upon arriving at the SBA 8(a) eLab, each attendee will be directed to his or her own desktop computer. You will use the same computer for the duration of the two-day event. All of your corporate data may be stored on that computer and you alone will have access to that data. At the conclusion of the event, your work product will be made available to you for transport back to your office. All corporate data and your corporate offer will thereafter be deleted.

  4. Attendees will be given detailed instructions on preparing the SBA 8(a) program application. Among other learning tools, attendees will be given detailed templates, examples and case studies to assist in the offer's preparation.

  5. After the instructional presentation, our instructors will walk attendees through a work session during which you will actually prepare your corporate SBA 8(a) program application on our computers.

  6. Telephones will be available for attendees to call their corporate offices for additional corporate experience and financial data, as needed.

  7. Our instructors will review and critique attendee proposals during the afternoon of the second day of the event.

  8. At the conclusion of the event, attendees will download their SBA 8(a) program application to a key drive for transport back to their offices.

Expectations

The SBA 8(a) eLab is not a seminar, a course, or a workshop. Rather, our experienced SBA 8(a) consultants will lead attendees through a hands-on working event, the result of which will be that a significant portion, if not all, of your company's 8(a) Program application will be completed by the conclusion of the event.

Each attendee's progress on his or her corporation's offer will largely depend on, among other factors,(i) the quality and completeness of the corporate data brought to the event (or obtained by telephone and e-mail from the home office during the event), (ii) the Microsoft Word skills of the attendee, and (iii) the experience level of the attendee.

Who Should Attend

Companies committed to preparing an 8(a) Program application should consider sending one of the following to our event:

  • The small business owner or one of the principals of the company
  • A company's government contract administrator
  • Your corporate Chief Financial Officer or senior accountant
  • The person in your company given the responsibility for preparing your 8(a) Program application

What You Should Bring

  • Incorporation and financial information related to the entity applying for 8(a) status
  • Corporate officers’ financial information
  • Detailed descriptions of your corporation's experience and expertise
  • Summaries of your corporate management and their experience
  • Other administrative data (all of which will be further described in the outline or guidelines provided in advance to registrants)

Other Considerations

Knowledge of the SBA 8(a) Program application documents and SBA evaluation procedures is not required because of the intuitive approach used to create and assemble your 8(a) Program application.

Meals: A continental breakfast and lunch will be served daily as part of the event fee.

Consulting: Consulting assistance will be available following the event and will be charged to past attendees at an hourly rate.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

Requests to cancel one’s attendance at a seminar or to reschedule to a future seminar date must be received fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the registrant’s seminar date. Provided the request to cancel is received with fourteen (14) calendar days’ advance notice, your registration fee will be refunded less a $1,000 nonrefundable processing fee. Provided the request to reschedule to a future seminar date is received with fourteen (14) days’ advance notice, you will be rescheduled to a future seminar date provided that you pay the $1,000.00 rescheduling fee. Note that the $1,000.00 fee is higher than our normal cancellation fee because registrants receive valuable information, in advance, regarding the SBA 8(a) application and preparation. Any cancellations or requests for rescheduling received within thirteen (13) days of the scheduled seminar date will result in forfeiture of the entire seminar fee. All payments must be received prior to the seminar date. Registrants who fail to show for a scheduled seminar will not receive any refunds whatsoever.
